Find these 5 qualities in a new employee to start hiring your dream team!

Hiring is an essential part of a busy business owner’s life. This is a buzz for almost all business owners because the people you take on board with you will either be a great contributing factor for your business’ growth or someone who will deplete your cash reserves and possibly try to sink your ship. That’s why, as a business owner, it is only natural to dedicate hours of meticulous hiring decisions just to find the right fit. Let me help you simplify the process by giving you these top 5 qualities that you need to look for in a new hire.

You may need you to take out your pen and paper  because you will definitely love these hiring hacks.

Here are the top 5 qualities to look out for when hiring someone new on your team.

  • The Willingness
  • It doesn’t really matter which industry you are in, but you need someone with an open heart and mind. You will need someone who will push their ego aside so they can learn new things. Having willingness is everything. Why? Because things will not always be fine and dandy in your business. Things happen and so changes are also inevitable. Without willingness, your employee will not show up whenever something changes, they will not be open to learning new things. You will put yourself in a tough spot with a resisting employee. This is why I would reiterate this, willingness is everything.

  • The Can-do Attitude
This is kind of related to the first quality. You will need someone with a fierce, can-do attitude. You need someone who will not crumble when faced with different kinds of adversities. You will need someone who’s tough and resilient so they can get everything done no matter what happens. This kind of person will thrive under extreme pressure because they can always find a way to do things differently whenever they encounter a roadblock.

  • True Optimism.
This great quality is somewhat connected to the qualities that I mentioned above. Do they see the glass as half-full or half-empty? Do they believe in their abilities and skills, and what they can bring to the table? Do they believe that everything is possible and would frown at the word impossible? Or are they someone who believes that the universe is against them? No harsh judgements here to people who have a victim mentality, but a pessimist will just drain the life force out of everybody at work. Unless your new hire sees the glass as half-full you will not be able to serve your clients for the greatest good.
  • A servant's heart .
  • I mean this in a good way. Simply put, one of the best qualities that is always a go for business owners when hiring someone is having the desire to serve the client for the greatest good. An employee like this always asks the big question, “How can I serve my clients from the greatest place of goodness?”, because they truly understand that if they are not going to serve their clients, they will lose their business. No one is going to pay them. Since we belong to the service-based industry, it is only natural for us to provide the best service that we possibly can to the lifeblood of our company, the customers. An employee with the heart of a servant truly cares about the needs and expectations of the clients so they can serve from this greatest place of goodness in their heart.

  • Finally, Being a Team-player
  • The last people you need to put on your team are divas and what I call the shit stirrers. While I understand that sometimes some businesses require a certain  level of independence, other times, you need a team to work on a task collectively. However your business operates, a diva who is fond of making everything all about them is going to be hard to work with in the long run. The truth is, it doesn’t really matter how good these people appear to be. It doesn't really matter how much money they're going to bring into the company temporarily, ultimately they will destroy your business because they won't put the needs of customers and the team above their own personal drama. They will ultimately destroy your company’s culture and everything that you stand for so do not hire these drama seekers, let them run right on by.

If you discover these five qualities in your new hire, hire them right away. I guarantee, you will have a more structured and cohesive culture in your company in the long term. You are still likely to encounter drama from time to time among your team members, but they will be held “able” to work it out for themselves without dragging you into it . Finding the best qualities in your new hires and helping your team stay engaged in these 5 areas will guarantee your company success today and your  future success tomorrow.
